Stillbirth and CuddleCots
About 1 pregnancy in 100 at 20 weeks of pregnancy and later is affected by stillbirth, and each year about 24,000 babies are stillborn in the United States. (cdc.gov)
Most families only have between 1-6 hours to grieve with their stillborn child. The earliest sign of macerations are seen in the skin 4 – 6 hours after intrauterine death. (stillbirthday.com)
The CuddleCot cooling cot provides grieving families an opportunity to spend time with their loved ones, stillbirth up to a one year old infant, for up to two weeks.
"The CuddleCot cooling pad is placed in any Moses basket, crib or bed. It is connected by a specially insulated hose and is quietly cooled using the CuddleCot cooling unit.
The CuddleCot’s thin, soft cooling pad is placed on top of the soft mattress which ensures baby is fully cushioned and comfortable. The CuddleCot system comes with two sizes of cooling pad for premature and full-term babies.
Grief is a natural response to loss, and everyone experiences grief differently.
We know that not every family may choose to use a CuddleCot, but we do hope that every family is offered the option to use a CuddleCot when the need arises.
It is our mission to help raise awareness of stillbirth and neonatal death and the wider support that is available."

Additional Help
For the families:
The Born Sleeping Foundation offers other grief care to families, usually by word of mouth. The care can be in ways of memory boxes, meals, meal cards, devotionals, and other sweet items for the mama. If there is tangible help you need or know someone that needs help, please reach out to the Born Sleeping Foundation through email, bornsleepingfoundation@gmail.com or through the Contact link above.
For the hospitals:
The Born Sleeping Foundation can offer support to hospitals. We can provide training on the CuddleCot machines and bereavement care. And currently, one thing I am doing is a presentation to Labor and Delivery Nurses on loss. Because I have so much contact with other moms, I have gathered a lot of feedback through polls from their experiences and now present on it. Currently I have a presentation for about 1.5-2 hours long. I do an average of 5 presentations a year. Pease reach out to the Born Sleeping Foundation through email, bornsleepingfoundation@gmail.com or through the Contact link above if you have a need.
